In just the last year, Coach has earned an impressive track record of celebrity-loved handbags with near-instant viral appeal on TikTok. From the new-classic Coach Tabby bag range to the TikTok-famous Coach Lana Tote, the New York fashion label only continues to build momentum with hot handbag releases that appeal to Gen Z trendsetters and timeless fashionistas alike. The Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag is the latest purse to soar in popularity, already selling out in multiple colorways since it debuted this fall.
On Oct. 23, the Coach Brooklyn Bag earned a major badge of honor: The suede iteration of the slouchy handbag has clinched the number two spot in the Lyst Index‘s ranking of the world’s hottest products to shop in Q3 2024. The popularity of the Brooklyn Bag likely helped to catapult Coach itself higher on the Lyst Index’s ranking of the hottest brands for Q3, too; the label has climbed up five spots on that exclusive list since the last Lyst Index report was released in Q2. Ringing in at $295 or $495 depending on the size, the Brooklyn Bag arrives at an affordable luxury price point compared to other designer handbags on the Lyst Index report that go for four figures.

The Brooklyn Bag made a grand entrance this year when Bella Hadid stepped out with the black leather bag on her shoulder in July. Hadid is often the source of style trends that pop up on your TikTok FYP or Instagram feed (she clocked both the Adidas Samba trend way in advance), so it makes sense that she was one of the first lucky celebs to get her hands on the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39. Gifted by Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers, Hadid effortlessly modeled the designer leather tote bag on two occasions in New York City this summer, pairing it with her signature eclectic styling. All eyes are always on the It-girl’s off-duty ensembles — 17.3 million on TikTok, to be exact. But her taste earns its street cred from her savvily sourced vintage designer pieces, which, partnered with Coach’s archival designs and sustainable initiatives (like Coachtopia’s regenerative leather goods), makes Hadid’s introduction of the Brooklyn Shoulder Bag a match made in heaven.
Coach often draws inspiration from the brand’s rich archives to inspire new classics. The Tabby Shoulder Bag, which exists in countless iterations from denim, to tie-dyed leather, ’90s-inspired florals, and beyond, is an updated 1970s archival design that feels right at home in the modern age. Similarly, the Coach Empire Carryall Bag that made its debut on the fall 2024 runway is inspired by vintage silhouettes, and similar to the minimalist leather and contrast stitching on the Brooklyn Shoulder Bag, fronts sentiments of founding Coach designer Bonnie Cashin’s multifunctional and versatile everyday bags.
The hobo-style Brooklyn Shoulder Bag carries a “distinctly New York attitude,” according to the brand, and serves as an apt tote for sidewalk shopping in Soho or as a finishing touch to casually-cool urban uniforms in Williamsburg. Available in two sizes, the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 28 and the larger Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39, the supple shoulder bag is constructed with Coach’s natural grain leather with an internal snap pocket, magnetic top closure, and sturdy shoulder strap. While the smaller iteration plays well as a spacious handbag for day-to-night wear, the oversized 39 silhouette can double as a designer work bag or a travel carry-on — there’s plenty of room for a 15-inch laptop, a Stanley Quencher Cup, a stack of magazines, and then some.
On the Coach fall 2024 runway, Vevers presented a clear focus on carry-all leather bags adorned in Jane Birkin-esque charm accessories, with an especially lived-in, almost tattered feel to them. “We’re very much about self expression, disrupting some of those luxury codes, being a little ironic with them, playing with them,” the Creative Director told WWD. “But also taking some of those ladylike references and making them feel more urgent, more feminist, more everyday.”
Naturally, tapped-in fashion lovers are already carrying the Brooklyn Bag, including WWD’s Women’s Fashion Market Editor Emily Mercer. “Since early September, Coach’s green leather Brooklyn bag has been my go-to everyday bag,” Mercer explains. “Not only is it large and durable enough to hold my laptop and day-to-night essentials, but it also sits comfortably on the shoulder, adds a nice pop of color to my wardrobe, and leans into this season’s popular slouchy bag trend.”
Posters on Reddit are practically drooling over the new Brooklyn Bag in the Dark Lime colorway, too, agreeing in one thread that the minimalist design is a refreshing departure from heavy logos. Meanwhile on TikTok, the bag has amassed nearly 18 million posts, with users showing how they “Jane Bikin-ify” their bag, sharing OOTD videos, or praising Coach with comments like “ate so hard” or “soooo chic.”
While the popular mossy green and suede iterations of the Brooklyn Bag are currently sold out, you can still shop the bag in many trending colorways for the season, including burgundy red and chocolate brown. Below, grab your Brooklyn bag before the hype sells it out for the season, then thank us later.
